Rohde & Schwarz Launches Super Wideband Mobile Network Scanner to Set New Standard for 5G

New scanner combines industry-leading frequency range such as TETRA and P25 and scanning speed to optimize 5G networks and prepare operators for 6G

Rohde & Schwarz, a global leader in test and measurement solutions, has announced the launch of the R&S TSMS8 super wideband mobile network scanner, together with the complementary R&S TSMS-OMN8 broadband antenna. The Critical Communications Review reports that the new solution significantly expands testing capabilities for mobile network operators, service providers, and government agencies, supporting network optimization, improved operational efficiency, and preparation for future mobile technologies, including 6G.

The R&S TSMS8 covers a frequency range of 10 MHz to 8.5 GHz, which Rohde & Schwarz states is broader than any competing scanner currently available on the market. Combined with a front-end bandwidth of up to 400 MHz and high scanning speed, the device enables a substantially greater number of measurements within a single drive test route, reducing the need for re-drives and improving overall testing efficiency. The scanner simultaneously supports all major cellular technologies, from GSM through to 5G, and can cover mmWave frequencies up to 53 GHz when paired with the R&S TSMS53DC downconverter.

According to Rohde & Schwarz, the new scanner addresses several pressing industry challenges, including the requirement for measurements at the very low frequencies used by mission-critical networks such as TETRA and P25, as well as on newer bands above 6 GHz, including n104. The company notes that the scanner's speed and multi-technology capabilities are designed to significantly reduce the time required for network engineering, optimization, and benchmarking. In addition, its IQ streaming capabilities, delivered in a compact form factor, are intended to support applications beyond conventional network testing, such as drone detection and signal intelligence, as well as cellular network environment analysis for law enforcement agencies, intelligence services, armed forces, and regulatory authorities.

The launch follows the recent introduction of the R&S LCM network performance monitoring probe, and Rohde & Schwarz says the TSMS8 further reinforces its position as a trusted testing partner for carriers and regulators worldwide, offering an expanded frequency range, increased scanning speed, and a future-proof design for the industry's transition toward next-generation networks.
