New Tait OpenTrunk Portfolio Implements DMR Tier 3 Technology for Spectrum-Constrained Critical Communications Users.

Tait Communications today announced the Tait OpenTrunk shared control channel solution for industries including education, private security, transportation, manufacturing, logistics, hospitality and others. The portfolio includes portable and mobile radios, infrastructure, accessories, and monitoring and services tools.

Tait Communications is showcasing the Tait OpenTrunk shared control channel solution in Booth 1501 at IWCE 2026, March 18-19 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Standards-Based Shared Control Channel Technology

The new Tait OpenTrunk shared control channel technology is tailored to spectrum-constrained organizations that need reliable, open communications. The demand for spectrum is high, especially in major population centers. Shared control channel licenses allow multiple organizations to share the same frequency.

Tait OpenTrunk is based on the Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) Tier 3 standard. It addresses shared spectrum conflict through smarter channel management and serves as a blueprint for industry standardization through the DMR Association Technical Working Group.

TB7300 Base Station/Repeater with Reliable Performance

The base station offers great value in a small package with its scalability and industry-leading performance. The product offers scalable coverage and capacity, with options from 1 to 16 sites in a Tait OpenTrunk system. Tait OpenTrunk makes network management easy with a clean, intuitive interface.

For those requiring higher power output or different power input options, the Tait TB9400 is another effective option.

Tait 9000 Series DMR Tier 3-Enabled Radios and Accessories

The TP93T5 portable radio provides an excellent balance of features and affordability. The portable is an ideal choice for organizations seeking easy to use, reliable communications. TM9000 series mobile radios provide in-vehicle and fleet communications.

Tait also has a range of compatible accessories including batteries, carry cases, mics, headsets and antennas to optimize your critical communications experience. Tait OpenTrunk products are built to the Tait Tough requirements for harsh work environments.

Open Ecosystem

Tait OpenTrunk supports the DMR standard Application Interface Specifications (AIS), enabling compatibility with a range of third-party applications.

Advanced Security and Calling Features

DMR Tier 3 offers higher security due to device authentication and registration to ensure that only authorized devices can access the system. The technology also offers remote access to base stations for network management, including call records, configuration changes and diagnostics. Advanced calling features such as priority calls, call queuing, divert own call, emergency call preemption and call interrupt are available as standard features.

Tier 3 also provides fleet management with options such as dynamic regrouping to easily reassign users to workgroups or talk groups for maximum flexibility. Easily change radio settings or upgrade to the latest software features using Tait EnableFleet.

Why Choose Tait OpenTrunk for Shared Control Channel Solutions?

The solution offers flexibility to choose vendors, devices and applications according to your organization’s needs while avoiding costly proprietary add-ons. Simple and transparent pricing and reliable equipment keep ongoing maintenance costs low.

The solution can expand as your needs evolve; the system can be easily upgraded without replacing all equipment.
