UK Fire Chiefs Plan Messaging Solution for Sharing Critical Information

Source: The Critical Communications Review | Gert Jan Wolf editor

The UK National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) is implementing a Multi Agency Incident Transfer (MAIT) platform for the electronic sharing of incident information.

The NFCC published a market notice requesting assistance in supplying installations and connections to the hub with a messaging solution for sharing vital information between emergency services control rooms.

This is intended to facilitate the electronic exchange of vital information rather than the traditional reliance on telephone contact.

MAIT is an XML schema designed for emergency services to share electronic incident documents in order to reduce response time and improve coordination.

All 33 fire and rescue service control rooms in England must be connected, web-enabled, and fully integrated with command and control despatch systems, according to the notice. The work will be performed via a procurement framework with a single vendor, from whom all fire departments will be able to request services.
