Virve Takes Next Step (RFI) Towards Mission Critical Broadband Service in Finland

Source: The Critical Communications Review | Gert Jan Wolf editor

The publication of the first findings are planned to be published during TCCA’s Critical Communications Week program on Thursday the 5th of November.

As part of the development work of the Virve authority network, Erillisverkot Group has published a request for information on devices The request identifies the types of devices that users want or expect to use and the type of devices that manufacturers intend to provide for future broadband service.

The published information request collects information on what kind of device can be used in different use cases. At the same time, the availability, development stage and performance of the equipment are also mapped.

In the Virve2.0 development project, Finnish safety authorities and other critical users will switch to utilizing 4G / 5G broadband technology. The information request is used to compile responses to the second phase of the project, which defines, procures and deploys mission-critical communication services. Procurement is expected to begin in 2021.

Responses are expected by October 16, 2020. Questions related to this request for information are requested to be sent by e-mail to [virve@erillisverkot.fi].

The request for information can be found at this link.
