Curated by: Gert Jan Wolf - Editor-in Chief for The Critical Communications Review

The City of Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada has selected Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to evaluate and implement solutions to successfully complete the implementation of Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) system. FE has assisted multiple Canadian jurisdictions assess their legacy 9-1-1 systems, providing recommendations for technology upgrades, and manage the upgrade process.

The City of Kamloops’ Fire Chief, Mr. Ken Uzeloc, provided details:

FE will conduct a project initiation meeting to reaffirm a common understanding of the project goals, objectives, and vision. We appreciate that project goals are best understood through a close working relationship between our respective management teams and staff. Immediately afterwards, FE will develop a data collection tool to survey Kamloops’ Fire Dispatch and determine system requirements. The collected information on current NG9-1-1 readiness, ESINet accessibility, and system components will then be evaluated, and recommendations made.

Kamloops Fire Dispatch is a secondary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) that provides the following services:

  • Receives 9-1-1 calls from the primary PSAP (E-Comm 911) where fire services are being requested
  • Receives 10-digit emergency calls where fires services are being requested
  • Receives 10-digit non-emergency / administrative calls where fire services are being requested

Kamloops Fire Dispatch also supports the following fire departments:

  • City of Kamloops – Seven Fire Halls
  • Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) – Merritt, Sun Peaks, plus 27 Volunteer Fire Departments
  • City of Castlegar – One Fire Station

Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, President & CEO of Federal Engineering said:

FE has been a trusted partner for municipal government agencies for more than four decades. We have established a reputation for providing straightforward, independent advice based on client needs, factual data, expert analysis, industry knowledge, and hands-on experience of our subject matter experts. In addition to FE’s corporate Canadian experience, our team members bring a wealth of personal knowledge gained from supporting Canadian emergency responders.

Few consulting firms have the breadth of experience in all the requisite technologies. Even fewer understand operations in arctic climates. The combined background of our Canadian and US subject matter experts fulfils Kamloops’ requirements. FE will deliver solutions that are both particle and affordable with a minimum of risks,

concluded Mr. Bosco.
