Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS) has released a free single-key Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)-256 encryption algorithm upgrade for its public safety radios that will make them Project 25 (P25)-compliant and eligible for federal funding. The single-key AES was added to the Harris portfolio in response to the P25 Compliance Assessment Program (CAP) Encryption Requirements Compliance Assessment Bulletin issued by the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office for Interoperability and Compatibility in March 2017.

“Harris’ commitment to single-key AES encryption and P25 open standards supports the policies and guidelines promoted by the Department of Homeland Security,” said Eric Makovsky, product line manager, Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications. “Harris purposely developed a single-key capability to address minimalist encryption requirements. We wanted to make this easy and affordable, especially for our smaller customers who participate in large metropolitan mutual aid scenarios.”
