With more than 70 base stations for supplying the federal states of Hesse and Schleswig-Holstein, telent is thus implementing the two widest DMR networks in Germany at present.

elent GmbH, an euromicron Group company, has been engaged as general contractor to equip the radio networks of E.ON Mitte AG and E.ON Hanse AG with DMR (digital mobile radio) technology. With more than 70 base stations for supplying the federal states of Hesse and Schleswig-Holstein, telent is thus implementing the two widest DMR networks in Germany at present. They are based on leading technology from its PMR partner RADIODATA GmbH.

Mobile radio is an indispensable component at the two E.ON companies in everyday communication as well as emergency and crisis communication that is resistant to blackouts. The radio networks are used to directly coordinate service staff in the field and alert emergency teams. Modernization of the networks will enable the innovative utilities to achieve extremely high efficiency and flexibility in their mobile enterprise communication. In addition to secure voice transport, the networks will also permit integration of telecontrol technology and numerous future data applications.

All the phases of the project were managed by telent GmbH in constant coordination with the two E.ON companies: From planning and building the networks, testing and trial operation to acceptance by the customer. The order also includes supplying several hundred powerful full-duplex mobile devices for vehicles.

The system technology is a new development byRADIODATA GmbH, a strategic partner of telent. The system supplied to both E.ON companies is based on the advanced DMR Tier III standard in the 4m band and caters for all the requirements demanded of a full-coverage cellular digital radio network.

DMR - private mobile radio technology of the futureĀ
DMR is a state-of-the-art digital mobile radio standard adopted by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). The advantages of DMR include efficient use of frequencies and modern communication features, such as full-duplex calls and the simultaneous transport of voice and data. Particular features are the excellent voice quality, emergency calls, prioritization, state-of-the-art data services, such as Short Data Service (a data service for DMR which is similar to SMS), status messages and packet data. A further key advantage of the DMR technology used is that the frequencies, locations, antennas and masts of the existing analogue infrastructure can continue to be used. That means operators, in this case the two E.ON companies, can achieve a high level of cost effectiveness and investment security.

With the project for E.ON Mitte AG and E.ON Hanse AG, telent is also setting standards for other power utilities and further user groups, such as local public transport or highways agencies, and successfully demonstrating its pioneering role in building DMR networks with an extremely high degree of complexity. Moreover, thanks to the partnership with RADIODATA, the company is excellently positioned strategically to meet all future requirements for mobile enterprise communication in terms of efficiency and flexibility.
