Success for Ooredoo’s TETRA tracking & geo-fencing solution

Ooredoo today reported strong demand for its updated Tetra Automatic Vehicle Location service, which was upgraded at the start of summer, as more companies in Qatar to look to track the rising volume of assets required for Qatar’s building boom.

The TETRA service also enables companies to track and monitor their assets and people using an Automatic Vehicle Location service (AVLS). For companies working on some of Qatar’s largest projects, the capacity to manage assets from their operational centre using the AVLS service is increasingly important, particularly as the scale and complexity of these projects increases.

The AVL provides a dedicated MAP application for logistics and operational centres to control and manage radio subscribers, groups and alarm, and control functions with map functionality. AVLS is used to track the location of vehicles and TETRA users equipped with a GPS enabled TETRA radio. The AVLS system is able to display the subscribers on a graphical map based on GPS information. The dispatcher can perform specific actions using this map, such as calling individuals or groups on the map by touching it.

Ooredoo’s TETRA network is one of the largest commercially-available networks in the region, and is increasingly being evolved into a fully Machine-2-Machine (M2M) compliant service.
