In the Philippines, the Manila Light Rail Transit (LRT) System Line 2’s second rapid transit line has recently issued a Notice of Award for the purchase of the Rohill Tetra System

This is part of the ongoing modernization of the entire light rail transit system. The upgrading of the LRT Line 2’s analog two-way radio to the Rohill Tetra System will be performed by its local partner and premier systems integrator, Syntech Systems, Inc.

The bombing of a public utility bus plying along a busy major highway in January 2011 has prompted the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) to adopt to a more stringent security measure to address certain threats. To address this concern, the agency has decided to fully complement its personnel with the most advanced mission critical communications technology available in the market, ETSI’s TErrestrial Trunked RAdio (TETRA).

The LRTA has chosen Rohill because of its Softswitch (Open IP) architecture, robust features and adherence to Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) hardware, thus making Rohill a reliable and sustainable option now and in the future. Rohill’s local partner Syntech Systems, Inc. will implement the roll-out of the TetraNode system and to provide LRTA customized applications that aims to improve its ability to respond to crisis (terrorism or natural disasters). This is in line with LRTA’s Vision and Mission to provide safe, secure and reliable mass transport system.
