Airbus Defence and Space will be displaying new LTE and new Tetra products and features at CCW2014

The company will be introducing a new Multi-Standard Base Station (MBS) platform and a new high-power (HiPo) modem, combining the Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) technology of Airbus Defence and Space with Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology

Airbus Defence and Space, a leading solutions provider of secure communications for mission-critical users in the civil and military markets, will be displaying its latest products and features at Critical Communications World (CCW) at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore (20-22 May), at booth A301.

The company will be introducing a new Multi-Standard Base Station (MBS) platform and a new high-power (HiPo) modem, combining the Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) technology of Airbus Defence and Space with the Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology of Alcatel-Lucent. Both professional radio network elements allow broadband services to be added to existing Tetra (terrestrial trunked radio) or Tetrapol networks with no impact on the quality of the voice services. The MBS and the HiPo modem operate across all traditional ultra-high frequency bands, like 380-400 MHz, 410-430 MHz and 450-470 MHz.

Both devices were tested and approved in real situations as part of the Safe City Test Bed project in Singapore. As part of these tests, a Singapore government agency car equipped with a vehicle-mounted CCTV (closed-circuit television) solution and the HiPo modem allowed officers to control the camera (e.g. pan, tilt and zoom controls) and capture high-quality video. At the same time, the video was sent in real time to the control centres for decision support using the 400 MHz band operating in a 1.4 MHz channel.

Furthermore, Airbus Defence and Space will be releasing its new high-power mini Tetra base station TB3hp, which is the world’s smallest high-power Tetra (terrestrial trunked radio) base station. It provides up to 15 W radio frequency (RF) power with very low power consumption of only 100 W. The high RF power enables mission critical communications over a larger area and in a more cost-efficient way compared to other mini base stations. This can be particularly beneficial for filling coverage gaps or providing hotspot coverage in places that the normal network may not reach, such as underground car parks or tunnels.

The company will also be presenting a new covert version of its TH1n – the thinnest and lightest Tetra handset in the world. This new variation, equipped with the appropriate accessories, complements the very successful TH1n model and enlarges Airbus Defence and Space’s Tetra terminal portfolio, especially for covert use. In addition to the 380-430 MHz frequency band, it is also available in the 800 MHz band used in Asia and America.
