The consortsium is about forming a partnership to bid for trackworks and telecommunications packages for the mass rapid transit (MRT) project in the Klang Valley.

Motorola Solutions Malaysia Sdn Bhd is talking with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd and Apex Communication Sdn Bhd-LG CNS Consortium about forming a partnership to bid for trackworks and telecommunications packages for the mass rapid transit (MRT) project in the Klang Valley.

Motorola country president Mohd Rauf Nasir said being the market leader in this segment, it is looking ahead to securing jobs for railway communication solutions.

“The contract would gel well with what Motorola Solutions does. This is the area where we are strong. We are currently active in engaging and working together with the consortium.

“But we are not able to share the details yet. All I can say is that we are optimistic. We will make the announcement soon,” he told The Malaysian Reserve in an interview recently.

Among competitors identified to bid for the project include Siemens AG and Ansaldo STS Malaysia Sdn Bhd, according to an industry source.

In fact, Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd had last year awarded two contracts to Siemens AG-led consortia worth RM1.783 billion.

Work packages for electric trains and depot equipment and maintenance equipment have been secured by the Siemens AG-Siemens (M) Sdn Bhd-SMH Rail Sdn Bhd consortium and Siemens AGSiemens (M) Sdn Bhd-Hisniaga Sdn Bhd consortium respectively.

“We deliver innovative communications solutions and also services for commercial enterprises, government and public safety customers around the world. There is no other company that offers an exact match to our portfolio of solutions that we can offer for government and enterprise customers.

“We are leaders in the core markets we serve, and are focused on delivering tailored solutions,” he said.

“Our distinctive strength comes from depth and width of our offering which comprises cutting edge devices and products, wireless infrastructure, security solutions, applications, services, all of which are backed by our vast and global experience of working with different enterprise, governments and public safety customers across the world,” he added.

Motorola Solutions has been working with the Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) for the past ten years in providing the terrestrial trunked radio (TETRA) on the front end, supported by train radio communication system (TRCS) on the back end.

“ERL is an example of our satisfied customer. It is among the first in the world to operate via TETRA system. Motorola Solutions have help them achieve efficiency in terms of operational and also safety, as safety is very important in real communications.

“Through the system provided by Motorola Solutions, they are able to communicate from one end to any point within the system coverage. But what is more important, the communication is private,” he said.
