One day to go until RadioComms Connect

The sixth annual RadioComms Connect conference and exhibition, held for the first time at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), is just around the corner.

This year’s program will see papers gathered into industry sector and technology streams. The presentations will be held in two theatres and include these streams: Utilities, Public Safety,Transport, SCADA, Mining & Resources, Spectrum Planning, Training & Education, Technology in Focus and Digital Technology in Focus.

Two workshops will be held on the Monday, starting from 2 pm. The first is IP Technologies for Radio Communications Professionals, held by RMIT. This workshop aims to provide an overview of basic internet protocol networking technologies and tools for troubleshooting.

The second is Radio for IP Connected Professionals in the Networked Society. This workshop is being run by Ericsson and will showcase their realisation of the networked society and vision of 50 billion connected devices, and how to group radio solutions (GRS) using push-to-talk over standards-based cellular networks (3GPP).

Many associations will be supporting the conference and exhibition, including the first-time involvement from dPMR Association. Australasian TETRA Forum, Australian Radio Communications Industry Association (ARCIA), and DMR Association will all be again at the event. Paul Stathis, CEO BICSI South Pacific, and Paul Davis, events director WFevents, will again open the conference with welcoming remarks. Keynote addresses will be given by Prof Hugh Bradlow, CTO Telstra; Peter Clemons, managing director Quixoticity; and Chris Chapman, chairman and CEO ACMA.

The exhibition has grown, with over 90 exhibitors expected to show their wares in the exhibitor hall. ARCIA’s 2012 Annual Industry Gala Dinner will also be held at the MCEC on the Tuesday night. It will take place in the Plenary 2 Room, located on the ground floor. Industry awards will be presented at the event, including the coveted Jonathan Livingston Seagull Award, which is given to someone who has contributed to the radio industry over a long period of time.
