The Marmaray TETRA system includes Hytera Mobilfunk’s TETRA trunked radio infrastructure together with train on-board units, which will be integrated by Sistema in collaboration with Hytera Mobilfunk.

Hytera Mobilfunk was selected to deliver a secure mobile radio network based on TETRA technology to Thales Spain, which was awarded the engineering part of the project Marmaray. Project Marmaray is a rail-based transportation project in Istanbul, Turkey.

The project includes the creation of an undersea rail tunnel under the Bosphorus Strait as well as the renewal of rail lines along the Sea of Marmara from Halkali in Europe to Gebze in Asia. The name Marmaray is a made-up word combining the Sea of Marmara with ray, the Turkish word for rail.
