INIT will set up a TETRA trunked system and install a new Intermodal Transport Control System (ITCS) for the group over the next four years.

INIT will be the general contractor in a project for a joint tendering group led by Rheinbahn AG Düsseldorf. For this project INIT will set up a TETRA trunked system and install a new Intermodal Transport Control System (ITCS) for the group over the next four years.

In addition to Rheinbahn AG Düsseldorf GmbH, three additional transport companies (Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft, Essener Verkehrs-AG and Mülheimer Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH) which are represented by VIA Verkehrsgesellschaft, form part of the tendering group. These transport companies carry approximately 1.3 million passengers daily in the Rhine-Ruhr region.

The Karlsruhe based supplier for telematics will provide the central traffic controls for the four transport companies and the necessary hardware and software (on-board computer, ITCS, dynamic passenger information) for over 1,000 vehicles (buses, trams). When completed the TETRA trunked system which is set up with Motorola about 2,000 radio subscribers will be able to communicate with each other. This will be one of the largest telematics project for public transport ever realized in Germany.

The accurate contract value will be calculated on the basis of the specification and numbers of vehicles to be equipped and options executed by the client and will exceed 35 million Euro.
