Nokia Siemens Networks expects to provide its award-winning Single RAN Advanced Flexi Multiradio Base Station to provide LTE access as part of the broader Thales solution.

Thales, a global technology leader for the Defence & Security markets, and Nokia Siemens Networks, the world’s leading specialist in mobile broadband, announce a memorandum of understanding with the intention to provide a broadband Long Term Evolution solution offering high speed data communication to Professional Mobile Radio users. This intended cooperation covers Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Over the past ten years, Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) systems used by public safety and law enforcement professionals all over the world have migrated to digital technologies, paving the way for rich media transmissions. In an effort to better assess a field situation, design a response scenario and coordinate actions, mission critical users have an increasing need to exchange varied multimedia data streams on a dedicated, secured and resilient PMR network. The high speed communication is essential wherever the user is located.

In the intended agreement, Thales’s full IP distributed architecture has been designed to provide the public safety and first responder communities with a reliable solution that will improve incident response. The resilience of Thales’s LTE distributed architecture allows dispatchers to successfully communicate messages between several interconnected base stations, towers and first responders even if one of the base stations or towers are out of service.

Nokia Siemens Networks expects to provide its award-winning Single RAN Advanced Flexi Multiradio Base Station to provide LTE access as part of the broader Thales solution. A small, high-performance, modular and energy-efficient LTE-capable base station, the Flexi Multiradio Base Station can easily be integrated into existing sites and offers the perfect upgrade path to LTE. It also provides high class security functions for connectivity with a security gateway.
