A private electrician climbed a communication tower in the compound of Madannapet police station on Monday and inflicted injuries on himself demanding his wife, who left home with her children be brought back. After more than an hour-long drama, policemen climbed the tower and after some discussion brought him to the ground.

Around 4 p.m, a 37-yearold electrician from Kulsumpura, Sharfullah Khan alias Jhani went to Madannapet police station and climbed the communication tower in the premises. The tower was recently set up as part of the police department's proposed Tetra communication system and the works were still going on. Sharfullah climbed more than half of the 200-feet tower and started demanding his wife and children be united with him.

Earlier, Sharfuddin's wife's parents used to live in Madannapet area, police said. Sharfuddin, who was armed with a knife, started to inflict injuries on himself and threatened to jump from the tower if his demand was not met. He also demanded that MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi should talk with him and resolve the problem. With Sharfuddin continuing to injure himself, Madannapet police inspector KN Surya Prakash climbed the tower and counselled him.

As the MLA was not available, cops made Sharfuddin speak to a person who pretended to be the MLA. "After counselling him that his problem would be solved, Sharfuddin agreed to come down.
