The new technology will apply to all of the Kuwait Fire Services Directorate's centres and speedboats

The Kuwait fire department will shift to the new highly-efficient TETRA telecommunications system by the end of this month on a trail period, prior to its likely adoption.

The new technology will apply to all of the Kuwait Fire Services Directorate's centres and speedboats, and will see the termination of the old system, fire department official, Yousif Al-Ansari said on Monday.

Developed and widely-used across Europe, TETRA is a common mobile radio communications infrastructure, targeted primarily at the mobile radio needs of public safety groups, - such as police and fire departments - utility companies, and other enterprises that provide voice and data communications services.

The technology relies on digital trunking, and its products come with built-in encryption features to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of sensitive data or voice communications.

TETRA also offers the ability to transfer data at faster rates than seen before in mobile communications.
