Sepura secures first monorail project in India

Sepura’s partner in India, Consort Digital Pvt Ltd, an established TETRA system integrator, has secured the prestigious contract for the Mumbai Monorail TETRA project. The Mumbai Monorail project, commissioned by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), is the very first of its type in India.

The new digital communication solution will be integrated with the telephony network, public announcement, onboard train communication, centralised recording and signalling systems and will consist of a DAMM TETRA infrastructure and Sepura radio terminals. The new TETRA solution, by being more spectrum efficient than an equivalent analogue system, will increase traffic capacity without using scarce spectrum resources.

Sepura SRG mobile radios - to be installed in the trains - offer 10 RF Watt power to provide a superior communications link to the nearest TETRA base stations in Mumbai where signals can be shielded by an increasing density of high-rise buildings. Another market-leading feature of the SRG is the support for dual control consoles, one at each end of the trains, to allow driving in either direction without the need to move the radio equipment. Sepura TETRA radios have also proved to be the most suitable in a high noise environment because of their high quality and clear audio.

Consort Digital will be responsible for the supply, installation integration and commissioning of the entire project. The Indian system integrator will supply and integrate Sepura radio terminals with the on-board systems to deliver a modern, reliable, user-friendly and complete on-board communication solution to Mumbai Monorail.
