BDBOS to Test new Radio Feature on Live TETRA Network

Source: MCCResources

During a field test in Berlin's Olympiastadion on 12 April 2016, the function a new feature "load-based secondary control channel" has been successfully tested on the live TETRA radio network.

Managers of the BDBOS and responsible persons from the different states worked closely together to carry out the tests.

The organization of the field experiment took over the regional office for Digital Radio in Berlin. Together with the authorized office of Saxony there was sufficient wireless technology to expose the digital radio network to a stress test. Also the National Police School Berlin supported the test with staffing. The organization sent its forces into the Olympic stadium to practice the text.

To improve the signaling capacity in the BOS digital radio network, already last year, additional channels were launched. Until now they had to take care for a good uniform distribution of the signaling load of the manual settings.

With the introduction of new features, the assignment of the control channels is handled by the system technology. The combination of load-based and block-based organization assignment of organizational channels enables optimized and economical use of the technology. In addition, the use of existing control channels from short term to continue solid emergency services is simplified.

The detailed analysis of the test is still ongoing. According to initial findings, however, the test showed some good results.

The states of Berlin and Saxony had asked BDBOS for the implementation of the "Last-based secondary control channel". Other federal states show interest in the new feature as well.

In addition to enhanced signaling capacity, the volume of data of special services such as the alarm or the GPS-based vehicle tracking is also equally distributed over the two control channels.
