Source: MCCResources

So far, the “Tetron" network is only live in the city of Vienna, the province of Lower Austria and Tyrol.

Already in 2009, the TETRA network in Austria should have been ready for operation, but sofar only in three provinces the TETRA network is now in use. Soon, the province of Steiermark will be the fourth province to use the network, that is dedicated for Public Safety end users. Steiermark will start in the summer as the fourth state with full operation.

In 2001, the Minister of the Interior Ernst Strasser (ÖVP) started the project “Adonis”. The project was started to establish a digital radio network for emergency services throughout Austria. Unfortunately, the implementation failed due to problems with the provinces, the cost and technology.

Four years later, the follow-up project "Tetron" was presented: police, ambulance and fire brigade should be able to communicate in the future through a common digital network. This network should already have covered the whole of Austria.

Steiermark to start in Summer of 2015

So far, the “Tetron" network is only live in the city of Vienna, the province of Lower Austria and Tyrol. In the summer the province of Steiermark will be able to communicate via 351 base station as the fourth state. Of the 351 base stations, there are currently 320 base stations in operation. The rest are expected to be completed by end of June. This is not quite on schedule, as the Steiermark province actually wanted to be ready before 2014.

“Tetron" live by 2019

Meanwhile, the city of Vienna, Lower Austria and the Tyrol provided positive feedback on “Tetron”. The network was received very positive by all service organizations. Basically Austria now needs full coverage, so that the whole system has a purpose. Currently in the remaining provinces as Upper Austria, Salzburg and Burgenland, first steps are being taken as well. This means that the full completion of the Austrian network will be ready in 2019.
