when deployed, more than 500 TETRA handsets will be used

SELEX ELSAG, a Finmeccanica company, has signed the second phase of a contract with the Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA) to supply TETRA communications systems for the two new Royal Navy Queen Elizabeth (QE) Class aircraft carriers.

An earlier phase of the agreement provided the design of the system. This award involves the manufacture and test of the main TETRA system for the vessels. When deployed, the TETRA system will provide more than 500 handsets, and will support above-deck aviation teams and below-deck onboard communications for mobile teams and machinery space personnel. The TETRA technology supplied by SELEX ELSAG is ideal for this provision of capability as it is specifically designed for secure emergency services.

SELEX ELSAG is a centre of excellence in the design, supply and support of TETRA-based systems around the world. The company is also supplying the Identification Friend-or-Foe (IFF) system for the QE Class via the ACA.
