BDBOS President Andreas Gegenfurtner discusses four-phase model to broadband for the German emergency services.

At the leading annual European trade fair for secure communication and professional mobile communications, PMRExpo, BDBOS President Andreas Gegenfurtner opened the second day with a speech covering the future of critical communications for the German emergency services.

In his presentation, the BDBOS President dealt with the previous tests of BOS digital radio. The digital radio has to prove itself not only in everyday use, but especially in crisis situations. In addition, Gegenfurtner presented the four-phase model to the audience. With this approach, BDBOS, together with the federal and state governments, wants to make broadband data communication possible for emergency and rescue forces, in the future.

“We have to make the network fit for the future. The modern age has to move in and above all with the means of communication for the emergency services of the BOS. With the four-phase model, we are closing the gap until suitable frequencies for the BOS and the Bundeswehr are available."

Gegenfurtner also gave an outlook for the federal networks, for which BDBOS has been responsible since the beginning of 2019:

“We are working hard to ensure that the networks of the future will look completely different from today's networks. Capacities will no longer be critical. Every customer should be connected directly to the backbone. We have already designed the connection types, we have the network in mind in terms of its architecture and we hope that next year we can start taking the first steps into the future world of networks "

BDBOS is a regular guest at the PMRExpo. In 2021, BDBOS participated in the official trade fair program with various speakers. Representatives of the BDBOS provided information in specialist symposia on current developments in the field of radio coverage. In addition, BDBOS advertised the funding program as part of the federal government's Corona economic stimulus package, whose funds are also used to research future technologies for broadband digital radio BOS. In addition, BOS also informed potential funding parties about the requirements and design of the broadband test road.
