Vella has taken over the position of Director General of ASTRID from Marc De Buyser, who held this position for sixteen and a half years.

The appointment of Vella was already made on November 4, but was only officially anounced recently.

The new CEO joins ASTRID at a time when the organization is busy switching from her own TETRA network to a virtual operator. This current network is currently receiving investments to remain active for the next ten years, to guarantee continuity, but in the future the emergency services network will no longer have its own spectrum and will use the infrastructure of the other operators.

As a civil engineer in Electromechanics, supplemented with degrees in commercial sciences, Marketing & advertising and General management, Salvator Vella has the knowledge to hold the position of Director General.

In addition, Vella has gained extensive management experience in the telecommunications sector at, among others, World Online, in semi-government companies and government companies such as DoMyMove (joint venture bpost, Electrabel and Belgacom) and bpost.
