Enea Operator Strengthens Network Resilience with Advanced TETRA Communication System
Designed with resilience in mind, the TETRA system features robust emergency power capabilities, allowing operation for up to 36 hours without access to mains electricity.
Enea Operator, a leading electricity distribution system operator in Poland, this week has signed a strategic agreement with Motorola Solutions to implement an advanced communication system based on the TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) standard – the European benchmark for secure and reliable digital dispatch communications.
This investment marks a significant milestone in enhancing the safety of Enea Operator’s employees, infrastructure, and operational continuity, particularly during crisis situations and large-scale outages. The new TETRA system will deliver a range of critical capabilities, including independent, encrypted voice and data communication, eliminating reliance on public GSM networks. This ensures uninterrupted connectivity, even when commercial mobile networks are unavailable.
The system will also enable remote monitoring and control of devices in the medium-voltage (MV) network, improving the company’s ability to manage infrastructure efficiently and respond rapidly to incidents. Furthermore, it will provide full operational support for Enea Operator’s technical fleet, comprising approximately 1,000 vehicles, ensuring field teams remain connected and coordinated under all conditions.
Designed with resilience in mind, the TETRA system features robust emergency power capabilities, allowing operation for up to 36 hours without access to mains electricity. The deployment plan foresees the establishment of approximately 130 base station locations across Enea Operator’s service area, ensuring comprehensive coverage for all operational regions.
Enea Operator, on social media, stated that they view this initiative as a vital step in its broader digital transformation strategy, which focuses on automation, modernization, and increased resilience of the power distribution network. The company continues to invest in cutting-edge technologies to deliver a stable and secure energy supply to millions of customers across western and north-western Poland.
The implementation of the new system underscores Enea Operator’s commitment to operational excellence, safety, and innovation – values that remain at the core of its mission to power communities reliably and sustainably.
