Saarland Begins Next Phase of BOS Digital Radio Network Modernisation

Migration of first TETRA base station marks start of nearly 60 planned IP conversions across the state.

The region of Saarland , Germany, is set to begin a further important implementation step in the modernisation of its BOS digital radio network in September 2026, with the migration of the first TETRA base station to IP technology. This initial conversion will be followed by the gradual implementation of almost 60 planned IP migrations across the state.

The migration forms part of the wider nationwide network modernisation programme led by the Bundesanstalt für den Digitalfunk der Behörden und Organisationen mit Sicherheitsaufgaben (BDBOS), which, together with the federal government and the states, is migrating TETRA system technology at both exchanges and base stations to the common IP standard. This transition is intended to create an essential basis for the long-term further development of BOS digital radio, as well as to prepare the network for future requirements relating to BOS broadband data communication.

With the launch of the migration in Saarland, BDBOS, the federal government and the states continue their step-by-step modernisation of the Airbus Public Safety and Security BOS digital radio network, carried out reliably and in close federal cooperation. The network migration has already been completed in Bremen, Berlin and Lower Saxony.
