UK Home Office asks support from TCCA on change of power class limitations for gateways

Source: MCCResources

While the proposed change is initialy focused on requirements for the ESN network in UK and the TELSTRA network Australia, other countries could also benefit from this important requirement.

The UK Home Office is considering the use of high powered UEs for some vehicular devices (gateways) on the new Emergency Services Network. In order to enable this and to encourage manufacturers to produce suitable devices, the Home Office requested changes to the 3GPP limitations on the power class of devices.

However, in order to make sure the suggested changes will be adopted by the 3GPP, the Home Office now asks support from the TCCA CCBG (TETRA and Critical Communications Association Broadband Group) in the means of supporting the request by adding their name to the discussion paper and act as a supporting organisation.

While the proposed change is initially focused on requirements for the ESN network in UK and the TELSTRA network Australia, other countries could also benefit from this important requirement.

The time for the TCCA to respond on the request is limited, as the Home Office plans to intent to submit supporting papers for the RAN plenary held 19-22 September in New Orleans, USA.
