TCCA's Critical Communications Broadband Group Publishes White Paper on Off-Network MCX Performance
New Publication Examines Sidelink-Based Device-to-Device Communications for Public Safety and Emergency Services.
TCCA's Critical Communications Broadband Group (CCBG) has published a new white paper providing a theoretical overview of the performance of Off-Network Mission Critical Services (MCX), also known as Sidelink-based device-to-device (D2D) communications. The publication addresses a capability of growing importance to public safety and emergency service organisations, which depend on direct, reliable communication when network coverage is unavailable or compromised.
The white paper brings together a description of Sidelink and Off-Network MCX technology, an overview of relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and an assessment of the factors affecting performance under operational conditions. It also presents a detailed desktop analysis alongside a range of performance optimisation techniques intended to help off-network mission critical services meet the demanding requirements of public safety and emergency service communications.
The overall aim of the work is to ensure that, when available, off-network mission critical services are robust, efficient, and fit for purpose, supporting first responders with reliable, direct communication in situations where network coverage falls short.
TCCA has described the white paper as a significant piece of work and has extended its thanks to the members of the CCBG Performance of Off-Network MCX task force for their contribution to its development.
