Critical Messaging Association Issues: 'Principles of Secure Communication, Functional Even in Critical Situations'

Source: The Critical Communications Review | Gert Jan Wolf editor

In a brief document, the CMA summarizes key points regarding secure communication principles, lessons from recent years, and CMA members' offerings.

The Critical Messaging Association (CMA) with its experts from Europe, USA and Australia has defined principles for secure communication in critical situations.

Natural disasters and crises over the past five years have highlighted the critical need for resilient and reliable communication systems to ensure timely warnings and eļ¬ƒcient coordination during disasters, thereby saving lives and minimizing chaos. Relying only on common services and infrastructures that are widely available to private customers is not nearly enough and is not state of the art. Anyone who relies only on one communication service is not taking their economic, technical and legal responsibility seriously enough.

The CMA therefore shares important insights into communication solutions that must also work in critical situations.

The brief document shares twelve principles of secure communication and focusses on what happened during two major disaters that happened during recent years. It also focusses on lessons learned that underline the importance of a robust critical messaging infrastructure for emergency situations and on the last pages it offers a clear CMA member overview and their areas of application.
