OLAS Communications Joins TCCA to Advance Marine TETRA Standards

OLAS Communications, a Chelmsford-based specialist in marine radio and vessel communication systems, has become a member of TCCA (The Critical Communications Association), the global organisation for critical communications standards. The company announced the membership via its social media channels, describing the move as recognition of its continued focus on TETRA technology for maritime applications, where dependable communication is essential to crew safety and vessel operations.

OLAS Communications works with superyachts and commercial vessels to design and install onboard radio networks, including simplex, DMR and duplex TETRA systems, alongside cellular and satellite connectivity solutions. Its TETRA marine offering extends the same mission-critical technology used by emergency services ashore to the maritime sector, supporting full-duplex voice, data services and integration with onboard alarm and PABX systems.

TCCA represents more than 150 organisations across the critical communications ecosystem worldwide, spanning government bodies, end users, manufacturers, integrators and operators. The association drives standardisation and market development for TETRA and other mission-critical narrowband and broadband technologies, and coordinates its work through a series of technical and market-facing working groups.

Commenting on the announcement, OLAS Communications said it was "looking forward to contributing to TCCA's working groups" as part of its involvement with the association, adding that it hopes to help shape how critical communications continue to evolve for use at sea.

The membership positions OLAS Communications alongside a broader community of TCCA members working to extend mission-critical standards into specialised environments, with marine communications representing a growing area of focus within the wider critical communications sector.
