KPN and Hanab Connectivity Solutions successfully execute radio migration without operational disruption at Europe's busiest aviation hub.

Royal Dutch Airlines has successfully concluded a comprehensive fleet renewal programme for ground-based mobile radio communications at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, marking the transition of all operational units from the Motorola MTH800 TETRA radio to the latest MTP3550 platform known for it's enhanced durability, extended battery life, and advanced features like integrated Bluetooth and heightened security.

The completion of the two-year plus Lifecycle Management initiative, executed in collaboration with KPN and systems integrator Hanab Connectivity Solutions, represents a significant infrastructure modernisation for one of Europe's busiest aviation hubs.

The phased equipment replacement and migration was conducted entirely within standard operational hours at Schiphol, with no disruption to regular airport functions. KPN's Service Center, supported by Hanab's technical team managed the complex logistics of equipment programming, deployment coordination and site commissioning across the sprawling airport complex. The programme addressed multiple operational requirements whilst maintaining service continuity for ground handling, airside operations and administrative functions.

The MTP3550 platform represents a significant capability advancement over the legacy MTH800 infrastructure, offering enhanced audio clarity, improved battery efficiency and greater integration potential with Schiphol's broader communications ecosystem. The modernised communications solution directly supports the airport's mission-critical operational requirements, where communication reliability and system robustness are essential to maintaining safety protocols and operational efficiency.

KPN emphasised the significance of the achievement, noting that the successful completion underscores the organisation's position as a technology and service partner capable of executing complex transformations within mission-critical environments. The collaboration between KLM, KPN and Hanab Connectivity Solutions demonstrates the viability of managed migration strategies for large-scale communications infrastructure renewal within heavily operational airport environments, setting a benchmark for similar programmes across European aviation facilities.

The modernised communications infrastructure now supports KLM's ground operations and wider Schiphol stakeholders with a contemporary, robust mobile radio platform engineered for operational continuity and long-term sustainability.
