Harris Corporation unveiled the Harris XL-185P, the industry’s first and only converged LMR / LTE single-band portable radio offering both voice and data communications capabilities to public safety professionals.

Capable of operating on VHF only, UHF only, 700/800 or 900 MHz frequencies, the XL-185P merges LMR voice with voice and data over Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth and Cellular/LTE. The XL-185P is open standards-based, Verizon Certified and Band 14 ready, giving customers a flexible upgrade path to emerging LTE capabilities and networks as first responder needs evolve.

“Public safety professionals need mission critical communications and demand choices that fit their operational needs, budgets and network modernization plans," said Yoram Benit, vice president, product management, Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications. “The Harris integrated XL-185P single-band solution is the first-of-its-kind to offer end-to-end 700/800/900 MHz and LTE communications, and is the only single-band radio that delivers both voice and data.”

Further expanding on its XL product line, Harris also launched the XL-200Pi, the first and only intrinsically-safe multiband portable radio in the market; and the XL-185Pi, an intrinsically-safe configuration of the single-band XL-185P radio.

Xl185pi-blk_front_utilityDesigned for users such as firefighters, hazmat responders, miners and oil and gas workers who work in hazardous environments, the XL-200Pi and the XL-185Pi are certified by Underwriter Laboratories’ (UL) Class 1, Division 1 (C1D1) for safe operations.

“The Harris XL-185Pi and XL-200Pi enable users to safely maintain communications in hazardous environments, which is key to their mission,” Benit said. “All of the expanded offerings Harris has announced today give our first responder and utility customers solutions that meet their varying needs and budgets.”

Harris will showcase its XL-185P and intrinsically-safe configurations, as well as other converged LTE land mobile radio solutions, including the Harris BeOn® mobile application, in booth #2201 at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference October 22-24 in the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA.
