ICOM Mission Critical LTE Radio Available in Early 2018

Although not specifically designed for use by First Responders and FirstNet, the IP501H received a lot of interest.

The Annual APCO International Conference & Expo landed upon Denver, Colorado the week of August 14th. Nick Pennance, Vice President at Icom America Inc. attended the APCO event and said that ICOM will deliver a true Mission Critical LTE radio next year.

Just like many of the major manufactureres, ICOM also identified the market oportunity (FirstNet) for Public Safety and Mission Critical LTE devices. With that in mind, the company showcased its's latest LTE based radio which will be available early 2018. It will operate on AT&T’s LTE network and support roaming through the entire United States, Mexico and Canada.

Unlike most LTE PTT devices, the IP501H is not a smartphone based application, but a true rugged and waterproof (IP67) two-way radio, which is also capable of full duplex voice communications.

As expected, during the show there where many discussions around Public Safety and Mission Critical LTE and FirstNet, although not specifically designed for use by First Responders and FirstNet, according to Pennance, the IP501H received a lot of interest.
