The telecom company said it organised a global workshop at its headquarters in Seoul and invited 24 public safety-related agencies from 14 overseas countries including First-Net in the United States and the Home Office of the United Kingdom.

SK Telecom is expected to take part in the government's nationwide public safety network establishment plan slated for 2017, and learned of each country's public safety expertise through the workshop.

"We will present the know-how that we have accumulated through the trial project of a public safety network here and the excellence of our differentiated technologies," SK Telecom's Internet of Things business division Executive Vice President Kwon Song said. "By sharing advanced public safety network plans and technological know-how, we will also push to commercialize and standardize public safety network technologies globally."

During Tuesday's workshop, Australia and the United Arab Emirates will share how they are operating public safety networks and their plans on how to upgrade them to the advanced public safety long-term evolution (PS-LTE) network. Nokia and the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) will also talk about their strategy to distribute PS-LTE networks around the globe.

SK Telecom introduced technological know-how on base station establishment and wireless network optimization and unveiled backpack-mounted LTE equipment, advanced routers that effectively expand network coverage and one-to-multi telecom technology that it is currently developing with Nokia.
