The company announced that it has supplied a PMP 450 wireless broadband communications network to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) in Tampa, Florida to enable their Eye on Crime video surveillance initiative.

Cambium Networks, a leading global provider of wireless broadband solutions, announced that it has supplied a PMP 450 wireless broadband communications network to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) in Tampa, Florida to enable their Eye on Crime video surveillance initiative. The PMP 450 wireless access network provides the scalability, security, high throughput, and low latency needed to provide reliable connectivity to public safety video cameras deployed throughout the city.

HCSO’s Eye on Crime initiative enables deputies to keep an eye on trouble spots, monitor streets for emergency situations, and provide residents an increased feeling of safety. Multiple cameras are installed at intersections, giving officers the ability to view traffic intersections and parking lots and to integrate information with Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) systems. HCSO had deployed a system some years ago, but with video surveillance used in more than 1,400 cases in 2015, the system needed to be upgraded to support more cameras and higher capacity.

“The older communications technology was at the end of life and we were vastly expanding the number of cameras beyond the original scope and radio capacity,” says Captain David Fleet, Deputy District Commander. “We needed a highly reliable, high-capacity, low-latency connection to have the camera respond immediately, and we now have that. The Cambium solution meets our needs and is a more cost effective solution.”

SiteSecure, the system integrator for the Eye on Crime project describes the technical need to deliver quality video. “In these situations, image quality is absolutely essential,” says Craig Bowman, Senior Project Manager from SiteSecure. “Frame loss, jitter, and latency – any of these can result in poor-quality images. With a Quality of Service (QoS) enabled system such as the Cambium Networks solution, the system reduces frame loss and operates at consistently low latency. It is designed to provide consistently high quality images.”
