Tero Pesonen, the new Chair of the CCBG, announces new update on new working group

The efforts of TCCA/CCBG and other mission critical stakeholders in 3GPP have been recognised with the formation of a dedicated Working Group (SA6) to undertake specification work for applications in the mission critical communication space.

It is the first Working Group to combine the expertise and influence of ETSI, OMA and 3GPP. The TCCA is represented both as a 3GPP Market Representation Partner, by its Members and by ETSI TC TCCE, which has the mandate to develop critical communications broadband standards as well as continuing the development and maintenance of TETRA standards.

The formation of a dedicated Working Group is a huge step forward as it enables dedicated time to be spent on mission critical topics, and concentrates mission critical communication work in one group instead of scattered across various groups. This means that attendance at relevant meetings for the mission critical community has become much easier and will involve less travel expenses.

We very much hope this dedicated group will encourage PPDR and other mission critical user groups to bring their expertise to the table, and the CCBG will seek to coordinate this activity, primarily through its SCUG group, to ensure we deliver one strong common position.

SA 6 will rely on already existing works done in OMA and in ETSI in order to develop application part specifications. This group has for first objective to create service enablers supporting push to talk (e.g., group management), which can be re-used by future standardization of other service types (e.g., video, data).

The next meetings of 3GPP SA6 are planned for January 26-30 2015 and February 25-27 2015.
