Polish Prison Service to migrate to Digital Radio

Source: Radiotech

The Polish Prison Service recently announced that it will spent 10 Mio Euro for the modernisation of its radio communications system.

Radiotech writes that the radio communication equipment for the Polish Prison Service needs to be replaced as the current system is outdated. It has become obsolete and generates increasing maintenance costs. In addition, due to the lack of encryption, the old system does not guarantee the required level of security and is exposed to the possibility of eavesdropping.

The system was implemented back in 2000.

In addition, due to outdated technology,  the Prison Service currently als experiences a growing number of problems with the current software on the radios.

The switch to digital technology will give the Prison Service much more flexibility and many more functionalities, as it will offer encryption and provides a range of services further affecting the safety of the personnel and convoys carried out by the Prison Service. For example, built-in GPS will offer the Prison Service location services for the convoys and personnel.

All of the required measures are planned in order to implement the new system in all organisational units of the Prison Service.
