The company is returning to the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne in Victoria, providing DMR equipment to control and coordinate the major motorsport event and ensure the safety of drivers, spectators and event staff.

Simoco will once again equip the Australian Formula One event with its flagship DMR solution, Simoco Xd, and also offer on-site technical support throughout the duration of the event. The technology supplied includes 490 portable radios to the race control, marshal, operations teams and other key contractors and suppliers required at the event. 20 mobile radios will also be supplied to the race control office and for a range of vehicles including medical, security, chase and safety cars. In addition, 10 digital base stations and a number of accessories including noise cancelling headsets, remote speaker mics and earpieces will be provided, matching the diverse needs of users.

The communications support will allow radio users to coordinate a rapid response, which is critical in the event of an accident or issue. The equipment will be used by the Australian Grand Prix Corporation staff and over 1,000 contractors involved in the race. With an estimated daily crowd in excess of 100,000, and cars travelling up to 300km/h, the Simoco Xd DMR solution is essential to delivering a reliable communications system to ensure the high-profile, international event runs smoothly.
“We have a long-standing relationship with Simoco and year after year we benefit from reliable and efficient radio communications technology,” said Craig Moca, Engineering Manager at the Australian Grand Prix Corporation. “The fact that Simoco provides a rental radio solution means that our organisers and contractors can access high quality communications equipment on a short term basis. Furthermore, its permanent base in Victoria means we benefit from true local manufacturer support.”

Robert Meachem, General Manager at Simoco Australasia, said: “Every public venue is different from the next, and it is often a complex space run by varied groups of users that require robust and reliable communications across an entire site. Formula One is no exception and its number one priority is for the drivers, visitors and staff to be kept safe and informed throughout the event. Our return to the Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix is proof that Simoco has the expertise to install and maintain radio systems in this challenging location and provide the flexibility of hiring rental radios to manage the large event.”

Simoco has recently seen a significant increase in the demand for its rental services with deployments at major world-class exhibitions and trade shows right through to internationally renowned sporting tournaments. Recent wins include Australian International Airshow and ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
