Thomas Lynch, Mobile Radio Market Analyst at IMS Research states “Newer digital technologies and in particular DMR are set to play a fundamental role in shaping the future PMR market.

The worldwide professional mobile radio (PMR) terminal market for newer "Cost-Optimised" Digital technologies is set to jump a staggering 27% CAGR from 2010 to 2015, in terms of revenues, according to the latest data by IMS Research.

Representing the fastest growth in the overall PMR industry, these new digital technologies, including DMR, dPMR, NXDN and PDT, are set to make a significant impact over the next 5 years.

IMS Research has reported that the migration from analogue-to-digital is predicted to increase at levels not seen before due mostly to the predicted success of what IMS Research terms as "Cost-Optimised" Digital technologies. In fact, by 2015 "Cost-Optimised" Digital is set to make up over 40% of the overall digital installed base, which already includes technologies such as TETRA, APCO P25 and Tetrapol.

Thomas Lynch, Mobile Radio Market Analyst at IMS Research states "Newer digital technologies and in particular DMR are set to play a fundamental role in shaping the future PMR market. These technologies offer a direct migration from analogue to digital at a cost of ownership that is currently less than other well established digital technologies; and this is creating an appetite in industry". In fact, from utility based operations to transport systems, "Cost Optimised" Digital has already made a big impact and this is set to continue.

Furthermore, "It is the global success of these technologies that remains key as there is optimism in the international market place towards digital solutions that do not necessarily provide the widest range of features, but offer the most cost-effective solution", states Thomas Lynch.

IMS Research has recently published its latest data on the digital licensed mobile radio market in its new report "DMR/dPMR & Competing Technologies - World - 2011". Please contact us if you would like more information on this report.
