Narrowband Meets Broadband: SDIS Ille-et-Vilaine Installs RRF Radio Gateway to Bridge ANTARES and Future Network

Four-channel RRF gateway enables voice communication between ANTARES narrowband terminals and Future Radio Network (RRF) broadband smartphones, as the interconnection rollout extends to further French fire and rescue services.

On 19 and 20 August 2026, ACMOSS installed a four-channel RRF radio gateway at the Ille-et-Vilaine Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS 35). The system enables voice communication between terminals on the ANTARES network (narrowband) and smartphones on the Future Radio Network — RRF (broadband).

The deployment of the RRF gateway was prepared in advance through a series of workshops to validate the technical prerequisites required for its installation. The availability of suitable space within SDIS 35's equipment racks facilitated both its installation and the subsequent functional checks.

Audio settings were then configured directly with SDIS technical experts on the equipment at the rescue centre. These tests confirmed that sound quality was suitable for optimal operational use.

This installation at SDIS 35 continues the ongoing rollout of audio gateways enabling interconnection between the ANTARES and RRF networks, following a similar deployment earlier this year at the Oise Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS 60). Further installations are already scheduled in the coming weeks at the fire and rescue services of Val-d'Oise (95), Essonne (91) and Alpes-Maritimes (06). These operations are intended to facilitate communication between users of the two networks and to support the progressive rollout of RRF among security and emergency services.
