Carteret County Selects Federal Engineering for Radio Consulting Project

Carteret County, North Carolina has selected Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to provide support in procuring and implementing a new Project 25 countywide radio system.

Mr. Stephen Rea, Emergency Services Director for the County said: “Carteret County is a diverse County containing eleven municipalities. We provide dispatch services for all Public Safety Agencies including the Sheriff’s Office, seven law enforcement agencies, eighteen fire departments, and thirteen emergency medical services (EMS) agencies. Improvement of the current radio system is critical to the safety of citizens and public safety providers. The County selected Federal Engineering via a competitive procurement process to assist with developing a request for proposal (RFP) for a new radio system, develop cost estimates, manage the bidding process, evaluate vendor proposals, and provide project management during construction.”

Mr. Travis LePage, Director of Operations for Federal Engineering, provided more details: “Federal Engineering will accomplish the following tasks to fulfill the diverse first responder needs of the multiple jurisdictions. Tasks to be performed will include:

  • Review of existing systems
  • User interviews
  • Definition of requirements
  • Generation of system specifications
  • Development of an RFP
  • Assistance in the procurement process
  • Evaluating vendor proposals
  • Project management and technical support throughout the implementation

FE will assess vendor proposals for compliance with applicable governmental regulations and industry design standards. We will provide assistance to the County during the review of proposed vendor designs and the winning vendor’s design will be approved by the Carteret County Board of Commissioners as well as County staff.”
