New FirstNet Cell Sites Launch Across Vermont to Support First Responders

Vermont’s first responders are getting a major boost in their wireless communications thanks to the FirstNet network expansion currently underway by AT&T. AT&T added new, purpose-built cell sites located in Sheffield, Huntington and Mendon, which will cover surrounding areas, neighborhoods and businesses. These new sites are giving first responders on FirstNet – America’s public safety network – access to always-on, 24-hours-a-day priority and preemption across voice and data.

In addition, AT&T added a new cell tower in Berlin to enhance the area’s 4G LTE coverage and help give customers faster, more reliable wireless service. This enhancement also brings Band 14 spectrum to the area, which is the nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet. We look at Band 14 as public safety’s VIP lane. In an emergency, this band – or lane – can be cleared and locked just for FirstNet subscribers. When not in use by FirstNet subscribers, AT&T customers can enjoy Band 14’s added coverage and capacity.
