As a result of a competitive request for quotes issued by the State of Florida, Department of Management Services, Federal Engineering, Inc. won a contract to develop a business case, assist with procurement, and provide ongoing project management support for the upgrade of the Statewide Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS-2).

Mr. Brad Barber, the FE Director principally responsible for the SLERS-2 project, provided an overview. “The DMS RFQ was issued to acquire and maintain the necessary staff augmentation support and subject matter experts to assist the department in implementing the replacement of the current Statewide Law Enforcement Radio System. Currently, SLERS provides radio communications capabilities for 22 State agencies with nearly 20,000 radios throughout the State. The current SLERS is based upon proprietary technology, is 20 years old, and near the end of its lifecycle. The State desires to develop an a business case to identify solutions that will be considered for SLERS-2 and release a competitive procurement that will, at a minimum, utilize standards based Project 25 Phase II technology while also considering emerging technologies to enhance interoperability, promote public safety, improve coverage and enhance audio clarity. Federal Engineering has completed more statewide radio projects than any other firm and we will apply our vast knowledge gained through those projects to assist Florida in procuring a system that meets the State’s needs while minimizing risk.”
