Icom reported that their Icom IC-SAT100 Satellite PTT radio solution was used during the recent Japan-Palau Goodwill Yacht Race held between December 29th, 2019 until January 20th, 2020. The event saw Yachts race from Yokohama, Japan to Palau, a group of small Coral Islands in the western Pacific Ocean east of the Philippines. The race was held to celebrate the 25th independence anniversary of Palau together with 25 years of foreign relations between the two countries. Icom's Satellite PTT radios were used on each yacht as well as at race control HQ and onboard a support vessel.

Comments from the organisers included, 'we found the IC-SAT100 PTT radio, connected to Iridium's satellite, provided smooth communication at all times. The audio was excellent, and the radio's simple layout made it easy to use. By using the Icom AH-40 external antenna it allowed competitors to operate their radios from down below inside their cabins as well as out on deck’.
