The Need for Dedicated Public Safety Spectrum

Source: MCCResources

In Europe the debate is still raging as to whether there is a need for dedicated spectrum to support public safety broadband communications. Recently The Global Risk Network held a European Forum to look into this question.

The Forum had a wide range of speakers and expert contributions. What were the key issues?

Tom Quirke – Vice President TETRA Business, Motorola Solutions: “Safer Cities means dedicated communications for Police, Fire, Ambulance, Water, Power, Transportation. All of these are essential to the functioning of a safe city and the wellbeing of the individuals there. What we’re doing here is to make sure that we have the dedicated spectrum so that in the future we can have broadband communication that can be unified there, that is resilient in times of crisis, and for every single day.”

Chuck Wexler –Executive Director Police Executive Research Forum: “The private sector is so far ahead on this issue. When you talk about resiliency and all of the things you need to do to protect yourself you are ahead of the game. But for us to be successful at this we have to catch up to the private sector, we have to figure out a way......”

Motorola Solutions  published recently a video from the forum capturing some of the key contributors’ views, so to get the full picture take a look at he video below.
