Motorola Solutions Supplies DMR Network to Republican Convention

The system consists of a digital trunked radio network and nearly 400 DMR portable two-way radios and audio accessories that will help enable convention officials to collaborate and connect with one another instantly.

Motorola Solutions said the company was named the “official mission-critical radio provider” for the 2012 Republican National Convention. Motorola will support the convention with a Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) system to serve the main venue for the convention and other event facilities in the surrounding area.

The system consists of a digital trunked radio network and nearly 400 DMR portable two-way radios and audio accessories that will help enable convention officials to collaborate and connect with one another instantly. In addition, Motorola is supplying 200 Project 25 (P25) radios to federal, state and local public-safety agencies that are providing security operations at the convention.

“About 50,000 people, including delegates and guests, and an international press corps, are expected to travel to Tampa during the convention,” said William Harris, CEO, 2012 Republican National Convention committee on arrangements. “We are thankful that Motorola Solutions is supporting our team with a digital radio system that will help our operations run smoothly.”
