Bavarian TETRA network focuses on G8 Summit
According to the DigiNet project group, in the mountainous Bavaria area there will be 900 basestations needed in order to have significant coverage.
The Alpine valley around Schloss Elmau is the venue for the G8 summit in June 2015. For this reason, the Oberland region is treated preferentially with regards to the development of digital radio network for authorities and organizations with security tasks (BDBOS).
The Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann and his Secretary of State Gerhard Eck have recently announced in Munich that Schloss Elmau, the venue of the upcoming G8 summit, will be supplied as soon as possible with the TETRA infrastructure.
They would be strongly advocate that the whole integration of the digital radio network works well before the start of the G8 summit. The scope and importance of the G8 now requires full concentration of the construction of the network. Thereofore the expansion in other parts of the country will possibly be delayed. For the Upper Franconia, the Upper Palatinate, Lower Bavaria and the Southern Swabia regions, the schedule could move a few months backwards.

How many police forces and rescue services will use the tap proof network during the G8 summit is not yet clear. During the last G8 summit in Heiligendamm, Germany in 2007, around 17,000 policemen where on duty. The upcoming summit in 2015 will take less taks forces, as Schloss Elmau is located in a valley that can be secured much better. According to the federal agency BDBOS the digital radio network passed the test recently in Dresden during as it was used by 2000 police officers during the remembrance of the 13th February 1945.
