Cassidian presents (TETRA) communication and security solutions at the 2013 PMRExpo

At the PMRExpo in Cologne, Cassidian will be unveiling a new secure TETRA paging device.

At this year’s PMRExpo, which will take place in Cologne from 26 to 28 November, Cassidian will be unveiling a new TETRA (terrestrial trunked radio) pager for German security authorities and organisations’ applications (Behörden und Organisationen mit Sicherheitsaufgaben - BOS).

The company will also be focusing on new offerings for communication control centres and mobile networks as well as for secure Smart Grid management. To round off the agenda, Cassidian will be presenting its comprehensive cyber security portfolio at Stand C01 in Hall 10.2. The company is a leader in secure radio communication networks, with more than 280 networks deployed in 74 countries. Thanks to this experience, it is able to implement and operate customer-specific turnkey solutions.

The TETRA pager


At the PMRExpo in Cologne, Cassidian will be unveiling a new secure TETRA paging device to meet the needs of rescue organisations operating on a voluntary basis. It is easy to deploy and combines antenna performance, battery autonomy and robustness in a compact format. In contrast to existing analogue paging devices, Cassidian’s new TETRA pager enables secure two-way communication between the control centre and the operational units. It offers TETRA features such as group calls, thereby enhancing functionalities dedicated to alerting. Cassidian’s TETRA pager will be the first product of its kind on the market which fully complies with the respective interoperability requirements for digital TETRA radio networks.

Control centre solutions from Cassidian


Cassidian is now also offering fixed, wire-connected BOS call stations which can be used to integrate local authorities and control centres such as police and fire stations, voluntary fire brigades and disaster control agencies. Based on Cassidian’s RCS9500 (Radio Console System) control centre technology, these BOS call stations are connected to the digital radio network of German Security Authorities and Organisations (Behörden und Organisationen mit Sicherheitsaufgaben - BOS), and are available in different varieties from big to small, as required.

Mobile TETRA radio solutions with satellite connection


Cassidian and Astrium will jointly be presenting an extended portfolio of mobile TETRA radio networks. Based on a modular concept, the mobile vehicle solution presented last year, for example, featuring a miniaturised TB3p base station from Cassidian and the ability to connect via satellite will be expanded by Cassidian’s compact DXT3p switch and control centre solutions.

The scalable end-to-end solution package of mobile network infrastructures is made up of the following essential components:
-    Mobile TETRA base stations and switches with corresponding connection and antenna technology,
-    Mobile control centre solutions with person location capability,
-    Equipment and services for establishing satellite connections via portable components,
-    A wide range of TETRA receivers, from the TH1n, the world’s smallest TETRA radio device, to the THR9 Ex, a robust all-rounder for endangered working areas, and
-    Services for configuring, integrating and operating the networks.

Secure communications for intelligent energy networks


Cassidian is a competent partner when it comes to the energy industry’s communication needs and, will be presenting secure wireless communication solutions for intelligent energy networks. The introduction of Smart Grids and Smart Meter systems has increased communication needs for managing power generation, storage and metering. These needs can be cost-efficiently met using the respective communications technologies from Cassidian.

In addition to delivering network components, Cassidian’s portfolio of products and services includes the provision of turnkey secure digital radio communication networks for public services and utility companies. This in turn ranges from the delivery of complete industry and corporate network solutions with all the related partial performances, such as network planning and integration and roll-out management, to offering managed services such as Secure MVNO, which reliably secures data transfer from the Smart Meter gateway to the customer’s computer centre. Cassidian’s solutions also address cyber security issues comprehensively.

CyberSecurity


For many years, Cassidian has been researching and developing cyber security solutions that can be adapted to the needs of its various customers, whether they are governments, businesses or critical infrastructures. Cassidian CyberSecurity will be presenting its comprehensive portfolio of state-of-the-art security technology solutions, covering the areas of Cyber Defence Centre & Services, Trusted Infrastructure, Secure Mobility and services (security, awareness, consulting, penetration, forensics, etc.).

One of the biggest threats organisations have to face today are Advanced Persistent Threats (APT), also known as Advanced Targeted Attacks (ATA). These threats exploit vulnerabilities in system architectures. Cassidian CyberSecurity therefore offers a cost-effective APT check service to determine whether the customer’s IT infrastructure is susceptible to malicious APT software, or even whether this software is already present in the system. In addition, Cassidian CyberSecurity’s Cyber Defence Centres (CDCs), one for each of the organisations based in France, Germany and the United Kingdom, offer fully dedicated IT security and operational services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Tools such as Cymerius provide additional support in monitoring IT systems, detecting attacks and initiating countermeasures, directly on the customer’s premises.

To respond to the statutory and national sovereignty requirements of some of its customers, Cassidian CyberSecurity has also designed a range of products and solutions (e.g. Ectocryp and Seccom) for encrypting voice and data as well as for administering user rights and actions in an IT environment.
