Sami’s presentation will offer a full update on the project to implement TETRA at Saudi Aramco so far.

Event Director, Hanna Jackson recently interviewed Sami, to give you a 60 second snapshot of what you will hear in more detail at the conference on Monday 16th September.

HJ: What is the scope of the implementation of TETRA at Saudi Aramco?
SN: The scope of the implementation is to cover a total of 170 base stations, 6 TETRA Switching and Control Nodes, equipment for 14,000 end users and 150 in-building repeaters!

HJ: Wow - that’s a big project! Why is TETRA the best choice for Critical Communications for your organisation?
SN: The main two reasons of selecting TETRA were

  • Technology efficiency, where each frequency can provide up to 4 time slots making a cost avoidance of frequency rental fees of 75%
  • Open platform between End User and infrastructure
  • In addition, encryption, security and reliably are key factors.

HJ: What are the specific communications needs for your colleagues at Saudi Aramco? And how does your working environment impact the technology choices?
SN: Saudi Aramco has someone from every profession with different needs:
  • Firemen require water proof equipment
  • Refinery, gas plant and bulk plant engineers needed loaders and more clear audio
  • Security men require more mobility and control
  • The Planning team required more consulate functionalities etc.

HJ: What are your future plans for the implementation?
SN: To utilise the existing network for SCADA, Cathode Protection, Corrosion detections, AVL and other systems
