Besides its use for voice communications, it is planned to use the TETRA system for smart road telemetric applications. Temperature and frost measurements and other street status data will be transferred over the TETRA system.

Hytera Mobilfunk GmbH was awarded end of 2012 to deliver its ACCESSNET®-T IP TETRA radio system to the Bas Rhin General Council in France. Integrator and general contractor for this project is Rohde & Schwarz France.

This system is the first TETRA system deployed by a French county and shared by different local agencies.

The system consists of 9 TETRA base stations, a redundant switching node IPN, an Automatic Vehicle Location System (AVL) and dispatcher applications for smart road operations. Approximately 400 radio terminals will be used in the first operational phase which is foreseen to start end of 2013.
