Cassidian-Belgacom to replace microwave links on the ASTRID TETRA network

The ASTRID network to be less dependent on heavy rainfall during the summer months.

On the 12 July 2011 ASTRID (operator for the Public Safety network in Belgium), launched a tender to acquire equipment and services for the replacement and expansion of the backbone of their TETRA network. The requirements where to replace all microwave links and associated peripherals in order to migrate to the new IP technology. ASTRID expressed the need to use lower frequency microwaves for links to be less dependent on heavy rainfall, mainly during the summer months. According to ASTRID, this project will contribute to better availability of services and radio paging and to a better level of service (SLA) with the replacement of equipment.

The contract includes for example; the Replacement of hardware for 463 microwave links, the relate installation, configuration and integration, a proposal for the removal, disassembly and redemption of the old materials, an integrated solution to replace the microwave link on the ASTRID mobile station (truck) equipped with a TETRA base station, and a lot The current method for connectivity of the mobile site allows connection of 150 sites and the 2nd & 3rd level of corrective maintenance

ASTRID received a total of six offers and today it has been announced that the Tijdelijke Handelsvennootschap EADS-Belgacom (Cassidian-Belgacom) has won the contract.
